NEIGHBOURHOOD CABLE AND GRAPEVINE SUPPORT MILDURA COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL.
The 22nd Mildura Country Music Festival has received a welcome boost in support from new major sponsors Neighbourhood Cable and Grapevine.
It is a fitting association between two companies that support the local community and a festival which is the third largest country music event in Australia.
In announcing the sponsorship, CEO of Neighbourhood Cable Mr Ivan Slavich, said "We’re proud to sponsor the Mildura Country Music Festival as it’s a fantastic community event that attracts a lot of interstate visitors to support local business in Mildura and the surrounding district."
Neighbourhood Cable Limited combines the delivery of high-speed broadband internet services, cable television and telephone services (by Voice over Internet Protocol 'VoIP') to homes, businesses, government and educational institutions in Mildura, Ballarat and Geelong. Grapevine offers high-speed broadband plans on the national ADSL network.
"This strong support from Neighbourhood Cable will continue to build the ongoing presence and success of the The Mildura Country Music Festival," said Festival Co-ordinator John Arnold.
"Both the 10 day Festival and the Southern Stars – The Australian Independent Country Music Awards staged during the festival – will benefit greatly from the sponsorship and ensure that Mildura maintains its focus as the host for Australia’s largest Independent Country Music Festival."
The Mildura Country Music Festival runs for 10 days and commences on Friday September 26.

ARTISTS CONTINUE SUCCESS AT INDEPENDENT AWARDS
For many artists nominated in the finals of the 2008 Southern Stars - the 12th Australian Independent Country Music Awards presented by Neighbourhood Cable & Grapevine – it’s a continuation of what has been a great twelve months.
For some like HARMONY JAMES, AMBER LAWRENCE, LOU BRADLEY, CARTER & CARTER, GRAHAM RODGER, PETER PRATT, ROSE CARLEO, JONAH’S ROAD & JETTY ROAD, it’s more accolades after their finalist berths in the 2008 Golden Guitars.
A number of this years finalists like Amber Lawrence, Carter & Carter, Markus Meier and Graham Rodger were winners in the 2007 Australian Independent Country Music Awards, whilst others like MATT MANNING, 8 BALL AITKEN, ADAM JAMES, BRAD COLE, KELLY HOPE and TRACY KILLEEN have their first taste of pre-awards expectations.
Awards Coordinator John Arnold said this year’s nominations reflected the continuing strong growth of the Independent country music industry in Australia. "We received 234 nominations from 93 individual artists and groups," said Mr Arnold, "but what really stood out amidst the finalists in the eight judged categories was the mix of well-established artists together with some outstanding emerging talent."
"Previous wins mean nothing in the awards, and there’s no better example than Album of the Year where the finalists are all debut country albums"
It is an excellent example, and all of the finalists, Drew McAlister’s Here To There, Markus Meier’s Raindance, Amber Lawrence’s The Mile and 8 Ball Aitken’s Rebel With A Cause have already achieved significant chart success with radio singles over the past year.
The Awards are staged during the 22nd Mildura Country Music Festival. Winners will be announced on Saturday 4 October at the awards presentation concert at 5.30pm in the Mildura Arts Centre Theatre. Tickets are available by calling 1800 039 043 ($33.00 including GST).
The Awards will be broadcast live on the internet for the first time this year on CMR Online www.countrymusicradio.com.au

In what organisers of the 2007 Southern Stars - the 11th Australian Independent Country Music Awards of Australia are calling one of the most even and competitive fields in memory, eight individual artist or duos scored two final nominations.

Awards Co-ordinator John Arnold described the Finalists list as a level playing field. "Often we do have artists with multiple finalist nominations, but nothing as even as this year," he said.
"It was a tough year for the judges," added Mr Arnold. "238 individual entries were received for the eight judged categories, representing recorded product from 93 individual artists and groups."
